In Mark 12:29-31, Jesus gives us the greatest commandment: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.” He adds, “Love your neighbor as yourself.” But what does it truly mean to live out these words moment by moment?

Living out this commandment starts with receiving God’s love. Before we can fully love God and others, we must let His love permeate our hearts, shaping our thoughts, actions, and entire beings. This isn’t just a momentary experience; it’s a daily practice of opening ourselves to His presence and letting His love guide our lives. Receiving and embracing God’s love is the foundation.

Loving God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength invites us to reflect on how we prioritize Him in our everyday actions. Are we aligning our desires with His will? Are there areas in our lives where we could invite Him in more fully? These questions can help deepen our relationship with Him and strengthen our commitment to follow His teachings.

Loving others as ourselves also challenges us to consider how we relate to those around us. How can we be more attentive to the needs of others? What steps can we take to ensure we love our neighbors the way Jesus commands us to? And as we reflect on these questions, let’s not forget the importance of loving ourselves—caring for our own spiritual and emotional well-being so that we can love others more effectively.
